Duke Hellige: Students Love This Gentle Goldendoodle!
Q: What’s your full name.
A: Duke Hellige
Q: Tell us about yourself!
A: I would describe my personality as chill. My calming personality is what makes people want to pet me more. My parents do say I am high maintenance because I want them to pet me constantly!
Q: What’s your favorite vacation spot?
A: Sadly, my parents have never taken me on a vacation; however, I do get to go on regular field trips to my work at Brookside School. I am part of the staff with a badge and I am in the yearbook. I enjoy lying under my mom’s desk during my breaks. When we have free time, I volunteer for Hospice of San Joaquin. My favorite event is Camp Caterpillar, where I give free cuddles to children that are facing grief due to the loss of a loved one.
Q: What’s your favorite place to walk?
A: I enjoy going on walks with my brother, Moose, in our neighborhood. It helps with my zoomies!
Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?
A: One is barking at anything and everything that passes my house! Another is I like to run around the car when it is time to go somewhere and my mom has to chase me! And I also like to play fight with Moose, who is a French bulldog.
Q: What’s something naughty you’ve done?
A: I sometimes like to take food off the counter when my parents aren’t looking.
Q: Share your current obsession:
A: Lying on my mom’s lap on the couch. I can hardly wait for her to sit down before I jump onto her lap. I also must have someone petting me at all times. If they stop, I nudge their hand to make them keep going.
Q: Do you have a favorite treat?
A: I enjoy watermelon and apples!
Q: What’s your favorite way to be pampered?
A: Because I am a golden doodle with very curly hair, I get pampered regularly by going to the groomer. I often get compliments on my lush, long eyelashes. They must be trimmed often so I can see!
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
A: When people pet me I get in my comfort zone and I tend to slide to the ground. Students at school say, “Duke is melting.”
Q: Where were you adopted?:
A: My humans adopted me from the Sacramento area. They were trying to decide between me and a female puppy and I was the lucky one. My mom’s goal was that I would one day be a therapy dog. Shortly after I turned one I went through the training and became certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
Q: Who are your human parents?
A. Jenna and John Hellige.
