Kids Shining Brightly: Andre Fields, Jr., Eagle Scout

By  0 Comments

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Andre Fields, Jr., began researching literacy rates for children in the area. His study found that the literacy rate in Stockton had been declining.

Wanting to work toward making a change in these numbers, Andre began seeking ways to get books into the hands of children. With hammer and paint brush in hand, he started with Little Free Libraries, building three, repairing one, in Stockton.

Little Free Libraries is a nationwide non-profit that expands access to books and inspires readers of all ages. Placed in neighborhoods and filled with books for everyone to enjoy, the Little Free Libraries filled a need in Andre’s community and helped him complete his Eagle Scout project.

Over the years, his commitment to Boy Scouts has taught him perseverance and confidence, something he needed to complete this project in the midst of COVID. Along with his family, friends and fellow Boy Scouts he has contributed more than 60 hours serving the community. Now a senior at Lincoln High School, Andre has recently received his Eagle Scout rank!
