I Love My Community: Melissa Flores
Melissa Flores, marketing manager at Collins Electrical Company, Inc., recently talked with HERLIFE Magazine about her love for her community and involvement in it.
HLM: What do you love most about where you and your family live?
MF: I am a born and raised Stocktonian. What truly captivates me about this city is its vibrant diversity and the incredible community. The sense of community here is truly special, as I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with many individuals who share a genuine passion for the betterment of Stockton. Additionally, the city’s proximity to the mountains and the beach is a huge bonus.
HLM: How is your heart inspired to serve the community?
MF: My heart is deeply moved by the call to serve various vital aspects of our community, from creating positive environments for children to grow and thrive, assisting single mothers, championing locally owned small businesses, breaking the stigma of mental health, encouraging a lifestyle around health and wellness, and empowering individuals to become leaders who can drive meaningful change in our community. Each of these focuses contributes to building a stronger, more vibrant community overall.
HLM: What sparks joy for you?
MF: I find immense joy in many aspects of my life; spending time with my loved ones, the thrills of shopping, the fulfillment of contributing to my community, the serene bliss of being by the beach, and watching my daughter dance on stage.
HLM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
MF: My daughter, Zoee. She’s strong, independent, empathetic, smart and beautiful. Watching her grow into such a remarkable person has been incredibly fulfilling and is by far my greatest achievement.
HLM: What’s your free time passion?
MF: Outside of work, my time is best spent being a devoted mother to my incredible daughter, who is now off to college. I also cherish traveling with my family and my fiancé, Justin, as it allows us to create lasting memories together. Additionally, I am passionate about volunteering in the community and serving on the board of the Leadership Stockton Alumni Association, where I can contribute to meaningful projects and support leadership development.
HLM: Top three bucket list goals?
MF: Travel internationally; be a game show contestant; leave a legacy.
HLM: Can you describe a key event that had an impact on your life?
MF: The birth of my daughter. Becoming a parent transformed my perspective and priorities in profound ways. It taught me the true meaning of unconditional love, responsibility and the importance of being a role model. Watching her grow into the strong, independent and empathetic person she is today has been incredibly fulfilling. This experience has shaped my values and has motivated me to strive for personal growth and to support her in every way possible.
