Gary J. Long Jewelers: Integrity at Its Core
For Gary Long, president and owner of Gary J. Long Jewelers, the jewelry business has been much more than a career; it’s a passion and a privilege. Reflecting on over 50 years as a jeweler, Gary feels incredibly fortunate, unable to picture himself in any other field. He finds true fulfillment in helping customers select the perfect pieces, creating custom jewelry, and most of all, in sharing life’s joyful moments with them. His business cards echo this sentiment with the tagline “Your Jeweler for Life’s Celebrations,” a role Gary cherishes deeply.
Community Service
Yet Gary’s reputation as a respected jeweler and community leader is built on more than just enthusiasm. His commitment to integrity and giving back has been central to his success. Over the years, he has made countless contributions to the community and served in various roles, reflecting his passion for making a difference. A certified member of the American Gem Society, Gary served on the Board of Directors and on the board’s admittance panel, a testament to his dedication to upholding the highest industry standards. He has also supported and served with several local organizations, including the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce and Stockton Sunrise Rotary, and has supported numerous charitable causes such as Animal Protection League, United Way, the Stockton Symphony and Hospice of San Joaquin.
Customer Service
Store manager Kim Jones-Boutté, now in her 26th year with Gary J. Long Jewelers, points out that their entire team shares this commitment to quality and service. Alongside Gary, team members Will Mar, sales manager, and Lisa-Marie Delgado, marketing coordinator, are dedicated to delivering exceptional service, which they believe is a key to the store’s lasting success. “We carry such a wide selection of inventory, from earth-grown diamonds to lab-grown, and sterling silver to platinum, there’s definitely something for everyone,” Kim explained, emphasizing their dedication to excellence. Gary’s guiding motto— “Find a way to say yes” — shapes the customer experience, whether it’s repairing jewelry, finding a new piece or crafting a unique design.
Despite his accomplishments, Gary remains humble, acknowledging the family, mentors and colleagues who have supported him along the way. He often expresses gratitude for his wife, Anne, his children and his team. “You can’t learn everything in college; you have to know when to ask for help,” Gary said, crediting his industry mentors for their invaluable guidance.
Holiday Open House
This year’s annual Holiday Open House will be held on Friday, December 6. Shoppers can expect exclusive promotions, unique inventory such as pieces from renowned designers Christopher Designs and Spark Creations and a festive experience, with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. As a special holiday feature, customers are encouraged to add items to their wish lists, which the store keeps on file to simplify gift-giving and ensure recipients receive something they truly want while keeping it a surprise. “We’re sworn to secrecy,” Gary assured. “We would never spoil a surprise.”
“I’m incredibly blessed to be in this business,” Gary affirmed. “Many of my closest friends were once customers.” His team wholeheartedly agrees, noting that their relationships with customers, some spanning decades, feel more like family ties.
