I Love my Community: Rosa Meza

By  0 Comments

Rosa Meza, who was born and raised in Stockton, serves as a project manager for Visionary Home Builders, a company that creates affordable housing opportunities for families, seniors and individuals with low and moderate income. She is passionate about helping the communities Visionary serves.

Q: Tell us about your role at Visionary Home Builders.
A: At Visionary Home Builders, I work at the intersection of development, planning and execution. My role involves guiding projects from early concept through entitlement, financing and construction, while coordinating with public agencies, community partners, consultants and contractors. I’m deeply involved in shaping developments that are not only financially sound but also responsive to the real needs of the communities they serve. Every project requires balancing technical detail with long-term vision, and I take pride in helping move that vision forward from idea to reality.

Q: What do you love about working at VHB?
A: I enjoy the mission-driven environment and the pace. There’s a real sense that what we are doing matters; not just on paper, but in the communities we serve. I’m approaching six years with Visionary Home Builders, having started as an on-site property manager overseeing two new construction communities. I worked closely with the general contractors during turnover. This gave me a strong appreciation for quality, execution and the transition from construction to operations. I enjoyed that process so much that I asked Carol for the opportunity to move into development, where I began as an assistant project manager and I have since grown into my current role as project manager.

Q: Describe what you love most about your hometown.
A: What I love most about this city is its diversity. Stockton is shaped by people from many cultures and backgrounds, and that richness shows up in everyday life, from the neighborhoods to the local businesses and community spaces. That diversity is a real strength and a big part of what makes Stockton such a special place to live and build.

Q: How are you motivated to help in your community?
A: My heart is inspired by the people behind the numbers, the families, seniors and individuals who are doing everything right and still struggle to find stable, affordable housing. I’m most inspired when our work creates real stability, when children have a safe place to grow, and when communities feel seen rather than displaced. Serving the community, to me, means listening first and building with intention. It means creating spaces that restore dignity, opportunity and a sense of belonging. Being part of that process, turning compassion into something tangible, is what makes this work meaningful.

Q: What sparks joy in your life?
A: My beautiful daughters and incredibly supportive husband. They are my biggest source of joy and motivation and keep me grounded in everything I do.

Q: Outside of work, how is your time best spent?
A: Spending time with my family, traveling and exploring new places together. I love creating memories, whether it’s a weekend getaway or discovering something new close to home.

Q: Name three things on your bucket list.
A: Attend a Coldplay concert; travel internationally with my family, especially to Europe; lead a team through a large-scale community development project that will create a lasting impact.

Q: Share an accomplishment!
A: Managing a team that successfully broke ground on two affordable housing developments last year, soon delivering 173 new homes to the community. It was a true team effort and aligning so many partners toward one shared vision was something I’m especially proud of. Knowing families will benefit from this work and will have a place to call home makes it deeply meaningful.

Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” – Louisa May Alcott

Q: What is your favorite food / dessert?
A: I will try almost anything once, especially if it’s spicy or pairs well with a glass of wine. Tiramisu is my weakness. ®
