Dionne Brooks: Celebrating Life With Flowers
Dionne Brooks, owner of Brooks Blooms Lodi, brings joy to her clients and her community. Her creativity and compassion allow her to be part of the biggest milestones. “I have loved flowers since I was in high school. I worked for a florist in Stockton and loved it,” the Stockton native who has made her home in Lodi for the past 25 years, said. “I get to create beauty with my hands every day, working with color, texture and seasonality to make something that feels alive.” Dionne loves that no two arrangements are ever exactly the same, and the constant creative challenge is really fulfilling. “But even more than flowers, it’s the people. Florists are part of life’s meaningful moments-—celebrations, milestones and sometimes moments of comfort or remembrance,” she said. “Being trusted with those emotions and helping express them through flowers feels deeply rewarding.” Let’s get to know more about this fabulous florist!
Q: Tell us a little about your family!
A: I am married to Gary Brooks. We will be married for 30 years in December. We have three kids, my stepson, Tyler, daughter, Taylor, and son, Cole. I have two wonderful daughters-in-law, Natalie and Macie. We became grandparents in October and are so in love with her.
Q: How long have you been a florist?
A: I launched Brooks Blooms Lodi in 2020. I am a full-service florist. I do weddings, corporate events, funerals and celebration of life, bridal and baby showers, monthly floral subscriptions and weekly flowers for some local restaurants and wineries. I worked part time at Lodi High and part time with my flowers. My husband supported me from the beginning and cheered me on to grow Brooks Blooms. As my business started to grow from word of mouth, I was able to take it to another level.
Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a florist?
A: Honestly, the most rewarding part of being a florist is creating emotion with my hands. I put my whole heart into creating arrangements. A bouquet can say things that people can’t quite put into words, and being the person who helps translate feelings into something beautiful is pretty powerful.
Q: Where do you source your flowers?
A: I source my flowers from vendors in Lodi, Sacramento and San Francisco. I also purchase florals from a couple of local growers in the Lodi, Ripon and Modesto areas.
Q: What is the big trend in floristry right now?
A: For 2026, floral trends are all about natural beauty, sustainability, bold shape and texture, expressive design and personal meaning.
Q: Where is the farthest you’ve gone for an event?
A: Some of the out-of-area places that I have been so fortunate to travel to are Arizona, San Diego, Oregon and Paso Robles.
Q: How can people place an order or hire you for an event?
A: They can message me on Instagram @brooksbloomslodi or Facebook at Brooksbloomslodi. They can call me at 209-608-6970 to chat about what they need or by email- brooksblooms20@gmail.com.
Q: Who helps you with your business?
A: I have a wonderful crew of ladies who help me along with my husband. My kids have helped in the past and I have been fortunate to have a handful of creative friends help with big events. I have also been thankful for the help of my florist friends. Lodi has a tight-knit group of creative and talented florists that freelance and are always willing to lend a hand.
Q: What do you love most about your community?
A: I love the sense of care and connection. It’s knowing that people look out for one another, whether that’s through small gestures such as a smile, a check-in, showing up or bigger acts of support when it really counts. Honestly, there’s something powerful about belonging, feeling seen, heard and valued. When a community encourages their skills, creativity or kindness, it becomes a place where everyone grows together.
Q: What are some ways that you try to make a difference in your community?
A: I try to make a difference in small, consistent ways, the kind that adds up over time. I love supporting and uplifting others. That can mean listening when someone needs to be heard or offering encouragement. I try to lead with kindness, curiosity and respect.
Q: What brings you the most joy?
A: My family, friends, flowers and serving others bring me the most joy!
Q: Accomplishment of which you are most proud?
A: There are so many wonderful things that I have accomplished in my life. Being a daughter, a sister, a wife, a parent, a grandparent and a friend. I truly love relationships and encourage the people in my life to be the best versions of themselves. It’s not one single achievement; it’s the accumulation of small wins. Knowing I played a part in someone’s growth or success is what I value most.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy?
A: My hobbies are scrapbooking, card making and gardening. In my free time, I love to travel, cook and garden.
