Sears Home and Life: A New Look for a Trusted Name

By  0 Comments

When he was a child, Richard Herring and his family would pile into their car and spend afternoons shopping at the local Sears store. The occasional family outings allowed the children to hunt through the toy aisles to expand their wish list, while mom and dad took the time to research an upcoming major purchase. The Kansas City, Missouri, native never dreamed Sears would reach out to him much later in life to serve as the general manager of the brand-new Sears Home and Life Store in 2019.

“They headhunted me through LinkedIn from Mattress Firm, where I worked as an area manager. I was surprised when they contacted me,” Richard recalled. “Every company I’ve worked for I’ve always been the top salesperson, but it was a lot of hard work and I had some great mentors. Now, I use my skill set in marketing, store management and sales, and I have an opportunity to be a general manager for this company with a long history. It’s great.”

Traditional Service
Richard adds that everyone has their own way to manage a store, but he and his team, which is noncommissioned, at Sears Home and Life concentrate on customer service. He shares that their work is a very personal experience as they guide customers through a process to determine their needs and how Sears Home and Life can meet them. “At Sears Home and Life, we’re known for customer service,” he added. “That’s our number one priority.”

Sears Home and Life stores have morphed into a different type of facility than the Sears brand featured in the past. The company highlights 900 hometown stores located in smaller communities across the country and serving many areas. This store at 6327 West 119th Street, Overland Park, Kansas, includes a wide selection of products including washers, dryers, refrigerators, microwaves, ranges, stoves, power tools, lawn and garden products, fitness equipment and more. Richard points out that Sears Home and Life stores sell more mattresses than any other company in the nation. At this 12,000-square-foot location, customers will discover outstanding deals on top-quality, brand-name appliances such as Kenmore, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool and GE.

Meeting Your Needs
“We’re a smaller store but offer such a personal approach as compared to a traditional Sears store. We’ll talk with you about your needs and then the sales personnel will share recommendations based on your feedback. Our products feature good sales prices. But with a large corporation behind us, we can also bring additional discounts with your Sears credit in the form of rewards points that can be used as cash-back to buy other things,” noted Richard. “We’re a local retailer with a large corporation backing it up. You can buy from the store and online as well, but you’ll receive additional discounts in the store and we’ll deliver anywhere in the country. If you shop at a Lowes or Home Depot, your selection may include a few appliance brands because they’re a lumber store. At Sears Home and Life, we determine your needs and then tailor a product to meet them. You know that you get good quality coupled with top-of-the-line service from Sears.”

Not only will you find everything you need for your home and outdoor space at great prices, Sears Home and Life benefits the KC-metro community. While the COVID pandemic has limited its current usage, Richard is proud to share that the store’s “community kitchen” was used extensively as a demonstration site for cooking shows and as a spot for local charities to host fundraising activities. “Before COVID, we had ice cream socials, Halloween parties, Santa Claus visits, kid movies and Chiefs’ players signing autographs,” Richard commented. “Sears is proud to be one of the top donors for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A portion of every purchase goes to St. Jude’s.”

Warranty and Maintenance
Richard also shares that Sears Home and Life stands behind the products it sells with an extensive, worry-free warranty program and maintenance agreements, which can be tailored to run from three to five years in length. “But you can keep renewing for as long as you want. Even if we change out major segments of the unit, the warranty will continue for as long as you have the maintenance agreement,” he remarked. “There’s also no service charge for coming to look at it and no charge for parts and labor.”

If you’re in the market for a refrigerator, freezer, cooking appliance, washer and dryer, dishwasher, mattress, tools, hardware, lawnmower and more, see Richard and his dedicated team at Sears Home and Life. This locally owned and operated appliance store features a tremendous product selection while offering the best in quality, brand-name products. Sears Home and Life is where you’ll find great deals coupled with the support of the Sears name you know and trust.
