The Closet Audit

By  0 Comments

Hello, friends and Happy New Year!

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for a new year of new possibilities. I am not going to settle for looking anything less than my best and neither should you. And the first step to looking your best is to audit your closet! That’s right. It’s that time of the year again. Go ahead, step inside your closet and do a little soul searching to really decide what pieces in your wardrobe are serving you and which ones need to be released. Not sure where to start? Follow my four-step process to quickly and efficiently prepare you for the coming year ahead! This is the exact process that I use myself and with my clients and it works like a charm.

Step 1
Make an appointment with yourself to audit your closet. It might sound silly, but as humans, we are SO busy that we don’t have time to do all the things! A closet audit is something that will get pushed aside if it isn’t made a priority. Block out some time on your calendar and hold yourself accountable!

Step 2
Analyze each piece in your wardrobe. Ask yourself the following: Do I love this? Do I love it and does it fit into my lifestyle? Is it something that expresses my personal style? Is it worn out? Does it fit? If you’re not sure, try it on! Would I feel confident to wear this in public?

If you can answer yes to the majority of these questions, then that piece can stay! If the answer is no to some of the questions, it is time to consider letting it go.

Step 3
Categorize and colorize! Everything that is going to stay put in your closet needs a home. Break down your wardrobe into categories and then hang them back in your closet by category and colorized within category. This system will help you locate any item quickly and keep your closet fairly organized throughout the year.

Step 4
Make a list! Once everything is back in your closet and organized, it is much easier to see what you own and what you might be missing. If you see you are missing something, write it down! I always have a running shopping list in my notes app on my phone. This sounds simple enough, but it’s so important. If you are making the time to be focused on yourself and your wardrobe, then make the most of it! This list can be referenced throughout the year when shopping, which will save you time and money!

Start your 2021 off with a bang! I promise you will not regret it.
