MK Salon Essentials: Welcoming Salon & Fun Boutique

It’s a comfortable, upbeat atmosphere in a salon with welcoming, experienced stylists; that’s MK Salon Essentials. Krissy Dechant, co-owner and lead stylist, not only offers great cuts and styles but boasts a unique boutique and custom-made cosmetic and haircare products. Krissy said, “All my girls have had a lot of new clients recently and every single one of them say ‘It’s so cute in here’ and that they love the smell.” What keeps those clients coming back is Krissy and her team, the products and the fun offerings at her boutique. She also offers nail services and facial waxing.

New: Shampoo, Conditioner, Trucker Hats
“When you walk in the door, the boutique is on the right side and our hair care line on the left. So, it’s like the front of the building is your shopping area then you walk toward the salon at the back.” Krissy and fellow stylist Ame Leatherbury are always innovating offerings for the salon and store. “Recently, we started doing Trucker hats,” Krissy said. “You pick the hat, pick your patches and Ame will press the patches onto the hat while you wait. She also has crossbody bags, backpacks, denim jackets and shirts you can customize. We have a variety of patches including Kansas City Chiefs patches.” The Chief’s theme is on display throughout the boutique. “We have Chiefs metal art for the yard or your home, coasters, pens and other products including some Taylor Swift items.” They also offer permanent jewelry.
When Krissy and Marion Martinez, her co-owner and fiancé, opened MK Salon Essentials, they created a custom haircare product line. “The haircare products are sulfate-free, vegan, plant-based and paraben-free, and leave your hair looking and feeling wonderful,” Krissy said, and now she’s added a new shampoo and conditioner. “The Moisture and Shine shampoo incorporates lightweight oils of marula, grapeseed and argan into a sulfate- and salt-free cleansing base to create a pure moisturizing anti-frizz shampoo,” Krissy continued. “It has a fresh, clean fragrance, so it’s great for men and women, and like other moisturizing products, this is lightweight for heavy, curly, unruly hair, but it’s also great for people that have fine, straight, tangly hair.” Her Daily Indulge conditioner “is a super-fast detangling conditioner with just the right amount of slip and moisturizing. A Salon Home, Styling Trends
“We’ve had a lot of new clients visit our salon because their hairdresser or nail tech is retiring,” Krissy said. “It seems like we have become a new home for a lot of clients. They come in with their formula and we welcome them into the MK Salon Essentials family.” The team at MK Salon Essentials invites you to visit the salon for a cut, color, style, nail care or facial waxing. These experienced stylists deliver tried-and-true services while keeping up to date on current trends. “We are doing a lot more hair extensions. Clients want more fullness but they don’t necessarily want to add any length. They’re just want more hair. With football season upon us, some people are putting a few little pieces of red and yellow in their hair for Kansas City Chiefs, either as an extension or coloring the hair,” Krissy added. The Chief’s quarterback is also inspiring hair trends. “We’re seeing a trend that teen boys want a perm. They say, ‘I want that Mahomes look.’ Men and boys are growing their hair out and seem to like it long and we have found that a lot of them are highlighting it too.”

The MK Love Story Continues
In November 2020, Marion, the M in MK Salon Essential’s name, sent a Facebook wave to Krissy, the K in the salon’s name. They started dating and on May 23, 2022, they opened MK Salon Essentials. On Valentine’s Day, 2024, they became engaged, and the wedding will be November 30. “To celebrate, we’re offering special discounts in October and November to share our excitement with our customers and clients,” said Krissy.
