L.A. Bikini: Get Sugared for Smooth Skin

Q: I’ve tried waxing before, but I didn’t have good results and my skin got burned. How is sugaring different, and will the results be different?

A: Sugar paste is 100 percent natural and organic. It is made of just sugar, lemon and water and applied at body temperature so there is no risk of burning. Sugar paste is applied with a gloved hand (no sticks or strips) in the opposite direction of hair growth. Then it is removed using our proprietary Waterfall technique in the direction of hair growth, meaning it does not break the hair backward, leaving you with smooth, hairless skin. Sugar paste doesn’t adhere to live skin cells, unlike wax, and when it’s removed it only gently exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving behind silky smooth skin. The process is much less painful than waxing and doesn’t leave your skin feeling irritated or inflamed, just extremely smooth.

Q: I can shave every day without having to wait for hair to grow. With sugaring, how long does my hair have to be? And how often should I get sugared?

A: Shaving removes hair at the shaft or skin’s surface level, which not only re-grows with a stubbly feel but can leave you feeling itchy and uncomfortable. Razors often harbor bacteria that can lead to irritations or infections.

Sugaring specialists at L.A. Bikini can work with any hair length. We recommend your hair to be from 1/8” long, the length of a grain of rice.

We generally recommend getting sugared once every three weeks at the start of your sugaring journey. This allows your esthetician to remove the hair early in its growth cycle and have the best chance of thinning or even permanent hair reduction. Depending on your skin and hair type, it can be four to six weeks thereafter.
