Just Sayin’

By  0 Comments

A few weeks ago, I had a major mom meltdown. It was one of those really ugly ones and I was absolutely sure the entire neighborhood heard my insanity. One of those where the kids didn’t even try me. They just went SILENT and moved through the evening shower routine like little soldiers.

I’m not even sure what triggered it. It had just been a hard week with way too much going on, the kids weren’t listening and I was hangry! Not a great combo. So yeah, I lost it. Then, I took a deep breath, pulled myself together and headed back to the bathroom to help my daughter after her shower.

As I walked in and tried to speak first, she marched right up to me and said, “Mom! SHH! Listen to me. You’re the best mom in the whole world. I’m sorry. I love you. You needed to get that out. Let’s move on.” I was stunned. I hugged her so tightly and we both cried. I was in awe of my ten-year-old’s wisdom beyond her years. She’s such a solid human being.

My husband was sitting at the kitchen counter during the entire episode. He stayed as quiet as the kids! I think he knew I just needed to unload. I posted an abbreviated version of the story on Facebook.

Guys, I know by nature you are “fixers.” But sometimes we don’t want a solution. Sometimes we just need a good vent session. A good cry. A good flip out. I will say I felt a lot better after it was over. And I really appreciated that my hubby didn’t intervene. I actually think his comment on my Facebook post made me love him a little extra. “I didn’t hear a thing.”
