Varicose Veins

Advice from The Vein Doctor

 How are varicose veins treated?

  1. The first, most important step for every patient is to come in for a complimentary ultrasound-guided vein screening. After performing the screening on the affected leg(s), we can determine the best course of treatment. Treatment depends on the size and severity of your veins. Our technicians and doctors walk each patient through every step of the process, explaining each result and treatment option to ease any fear. Treatment options include either an endovenous laser ablation procedure or a few sessions of sclerotherapy injections to rid you of your abnormal veins. With these treatments, veins gradually seal shut and disappear. The blood loss and scarring associated with surgery are eliminated. All treatments are done in the office and most patients resume normal activity within 24 hours.

Will insurance cover my vein treatment?

  1. In many cases, yes. We also accept most insurance in our office. For most insurance companies to cover treatment the veins must be a certain size and have abnormal blood flow. Insurance also usually requires patients to have tried conservative vein treatments before approving endovenous laser ablation or sclerotherapy. Conservative treatment consists of compression hose, anti-inflammatory medication and some leg exercises. After the patient’s initial free screening, once we decide what treatment is best, we send everything in to their insurance carrier, and when we have a response we contact the patient to let them know what their next step is. We will help with each step along the way. HLM
