Go Red for Women: We Are Heart Strong!

By  0 Comments

Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year; that’s more than all cancers combined. But we can change that as 80 percent of all cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.

The American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. It’s no longer just about wearing red; it’s no longer just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all women making a commitment to stand together with Go Red and taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without. Making a commitment to your health isn’t something you have to do alone either, so make a Go Red Healthy Behavior Commitment today.

Fifteen years ago, the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative – Go Red for Women – was born as a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness, drive collective action for community transformation, and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. Slowly, the campaign grew into a movement that brought together thousands of women annually and became the trusted, passionate, relevant force for change to eradicate heart disease and stroke all over the world.

The Go Red for Women luncheon continues to serve as the cornerstone event of the Go Red for Women movement in local communities. This empowering event focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by promoting healthy lifestyles, building awareness and raising critically-needed funds to support research and education initiatives.

On Friday, September 27, guests gathered at The Atrium to hear keynote speaker Melissa Rock share her cardiac journey. Melissa’s daughter, Helayna, is a survivor and one of the many Missourians impacted by cardiovascular disease. Aric Bremer, Classic Clear 99, and Lexie Petrovic, KRCG 13, emceed the event, which included a purse auction, break-out session and a diva lounge sponsored by Moresource Inc. Swag bags were provided by Joe Machens Dealerships.

Making a commitment to your health isn’t something you have to do alone. Make a Go Red Healthy Behavior Commitment today. Let’s get started. Let’s unite. Together we are stronger and unstoppable.
