The Constant Scroll

By  0 Comments

Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling on social media. How many times do you check your Facebook or Instagram feed a day?

One time. Ten times. Somewhere between more than ten and let’s not count anymore, LOL? Me too.

For me it does sometimes feel like a lot. It’s a subconscious thing I do in moments of down time. I try to be present as much as possible when I’m off work, but even then, if I am being honest it’s a challenge if my phone is close at hand.

In my defense, social media is a big part of my job. The first thing that most people look at in the morning is not the TV; it’s their phone. You may see me doing the weather on KCTV5 once you get up and moving in the morning, but more than likely you have seen me first on your social media feeds to start your day on Facebook, Instagram or through our push alerts with KCTV5.

This month’s issue of HERLIFE is dedicated to KC Women of Influence.

Let me be clear; I am not one of those women. But I do nominate all the KC women who keep it real on social media as women of influence to me.

Life isn’t just about the perfect family photo, selfie or product placement that you see on social media. I can only speak for myself, but I do really appreciate when I see other women who post the good, the bad and the ugly in life, work and motherhood. Don’t get me wrong; I love to see all the happy and nearly perfect-looking pictures so many of us post. But I feel that I really connect with ladies who keep it real. We all have so much to learn from each other. I feel it’s important to show folks that I’m not all TV hair and makeup. We all wake up fresh faced and (happily) that’s how you will find me most days I am not at work. I am not always put together as a mother either, and some of those imperfect moments are what connect us as a community when I share on Facebook. You never know how one little moment of honesty on social media could greatly impact someone else or influence them.

Cheers to the beginning of a great new year; happy scrolling!!
