Beautiful Spaces

Where is your favorite outdoor space to explore?

When you think about a great outdoor city, does Kansas City come to mind?

If you had asked me ten years ago, I don’t think my answer would have been Kansas City.

I am homegrown to the metro, born and raised in Lee’s Summit. I am proud to be raising my family now in this same great community. It has been so exciting to see our city grow and evolve since I was a child.

Our downtown skyline is dramatically different in the last decade. The vibe in KC is open and urban, more than it has ever been in my memory. It’s not just new buildings and a shift in mindset for our city; let’s talk about all the amazing new outdoor spaces to explore.

My husband and I love being outside on the weekends with our kids. A simple walk or bike around the neighborhood is a staple on Saturday mornings. In recent years, we have also explored some new outdoor spaces in KC too.

One of our absolutely new favorite outdoor spaces is the Rock Island Trail. They just opened the new expansion of the trail that runs a total of 13 miles. You can start in Lee’s Summit and ride, run or walk all the way to the Truman Sports Complex! We love this trail for so many reasons that extend beyond the gravel and paved trail. There are branches that extend into creeks; you can ride over and into some of the most spectacular bridges and tunnels, and there are so many unique little nooks and crannies perfect for exploring as family friendly.

This is the kind of place I would imagine in another city many years ago. This is just one of the reasons I love Kansas City and where we are today. Not only is this home; it’s a destination city for others to explore now too.
