Paiton Trujillo, 23, is a hair stylist at Riley Girl Salon in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born and raised in Guymon, Oklahoma, a small town in the panhandle of Oklahoma, and attended cosmetology school in Liberal, Kansas, at Seward County Community College. Paiton and Jake have lived in Overland Park for a little under two years with their Australian shepherds, Bella
and Beau.

Jake Trujillo, 25, originally from McClave, Colorado, works as an accounting specialist at Universal Registered Agents in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Jake and Paiton plan to stay in Overland Park for a very long time.

Paiton and Jake met on a blind date! “We were introduced to each other by our friend, Neil, and Paiton’s sister, Aubrey,” Jake relates. “It was in my college town at Oklahoma Panhandle State University!”

Jake proposed by hiring Pop-up KC to set up a picnic on the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City. Jake played one of Paiton’s favorite songs, “Sycamore Tree” by the Hunna, as he proposed to her. “We used that song as her grand entrance to our wedding ceremony,” he smiles.

The blissful couple tied the knot August 6, 2023. Attending Paiton as Maid of Honor was her older sister, Aubrey Bowers; bridesmaids were Taylor Hierro, Tasha Perry, Alex Huckins, Avery Geer, Yajahira Birdsill, Jordan Mallard and Dory Trujillo. Jake’s Best Man was his older brother, TJ Trujillo; groomsmen were Blayze Melgoza, Dillan Kelley, Tuff Kelley, Jeremy Mallard, Issac Cisneros, Dillon Dowell and Blake Brubacher.

“Our wedding day was everything we could have dreamed of and more. Our ceremony was our favorite part of the day. We read our vows out loud and as Paiton was about to read hers, it started sprinkling,” Jake remembers. “We were worried that we were about to be hit by a thunderstorm. But instead, the sun was peeking through the clouds, and the rain was the prettiest mist that we have experienced. It lasted maybe two minutes, so we like to think it was the perfect good luck sprinkle. Everyone involved in our wedding was a dream to work with. We deeply appreciate our vendors, friends and family for everything they did for us. Paxton, our wedding planner, was the biggest blessing. We are so thankful for her!”

For their honeymoon, Paiton and Jake had a staycation in Kansas City, where they experienced the city as tourists, since they are so new to the area. Over five days, they visited some well-known restaurants, roamed around the Plaza, shopped and attended a Royals game.
