Leah and Geoffry Miles

Tied the Knot: July 8, 2017

Leah (Dempster) Miles, from St. Joseph, Missouri, graduated from Central High School and earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and nursing at the University of Missouri, Columbia. After establishing her career in nursing in St. Louis, she moved to Kansas City in 2008. “I’ve been a labor and delivery nurse at Overland Park Regional Medical Center for ten years,” she smiles. “We live in Prairie Village with our yellow lab, Lily, and we’re expecting our first baby in October!”

Geoffry Miles, from Lenexa, Kansas, graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest and attended UMKC, graduating with a bachelors in communication. He also holds a masters in entertainment business. “I played soccer in college and went on to play professionally in Iceland,” he shares. “I started The Kansas City Clothing Company in 2014 and it continues to keep me busy. Let’s just say we have plenty of onesies for when this baby arrives.”

“We met at a classy local drinking establishment, O’Dowd’s Little Dublin on the Plaza,” Leah laughs. “It was love at first sight!”

Geoffry’s proposal occurred at a memorable time. “During the week of Thanksgiving, he had been putting in overtime hours to prepare his first Kansas City Clothing Company storefront for Black Friday,” Leah recounts. “Friday night he came home with a swollen arm that had doubled in size. We took a trip to the emergency room and learned he had a nasty infection in his arm. We left the ER with pain meds and antibiotics. The next day, Small Business Saturday, he needed me to work the storefront because he had some ‘very important errands’ to run. That night, as I was sitting in the living room in my sweatpants, he walked through the door straight toward me, dropped his briefcase, went to one knee and promised me forever. I celebrated with a glass of champagne and he with a pain pill.”

The blissful couple tied the knot July 8, 2017, the only sunshine-filled Saturday that month. Matron of Honor was Lacey Adams; bridesmaids were Katie Gibbs and Stephane Cooch. Kory Miles, the groom’s brother, was Best Man; groomsmen were Pat Geraghty, Ryan Barber, Davy Arnaud and Andrew Dempster.

The ceremony at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village was officiated by Reverend Tom Are Jr. The reception immediately followed the ceremony at Indian Hills Country Club, with a theme of romantic summer garden, with colors of soft blush pink, brass, gold and French blue. “Long tables were adorned with lush greens and twinkling candlelight overlooking a bistro lit brick patio, the perfect vibe I had envisioned for my wedding day,” Leah describes. “We had the best, most energetic band that kept people on the dance floor for hours. We also provided flip flops for all the ladies to promote the dancing. Pizza was served on the dance floor. Can you tell we wanted to keep peeps on the dance floor? The night ended with a 4th of July sparkler sendoff!”

Leah and Geoff honeymooned in Turks and Caicos, which truly has the most beautiful beaches in the world.
