Spotlight on SCHEELS

By  0 Comments

It’s where top quality fashion meets the soccer field; trendsetting outfits share space with the baseball diamond; and fashion for the entire family pairs with sporting gear for the entire family. It’s Scheels, with a new location at 135th and Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas.

“We’re here for the entire family, and proud to be a part of the KC metro community,” noted Kevin Lambley, Store Leader at the Overland Park Scheels. “From our merchandise selection to the many different attractions throughout the store adding to your overall retail experience, Scheels has it all. Our experts are here to help you find the correct merchandise for your individual passion.”

The first Scheels store opened in 1902 in Sabin, Minnesota, as a small hardware and general merchandise shop. Although Scheels was firmly rooted in the hardware business, the owners added a small selection of sporting goods in 1906. As interest grew over the years, more sports lines were offered along the way. Athletic shoes and clothing were added in 1972 and in 1989 Scheels opened its first All Sports Super Store. The facility in Overland Park is Scheels’ 26th location in 11 states, including North Dakota, Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Nevada, Illinois, Utah and now Kansas.

What differentiates Scheels from the many other sporting goods stores in the area is its extensive selection of sporting goods and clothing for the entire family. There are an amazing 85 specialty shops under one roof at Scheels, covering 220,000 square feet with practicing experts in every one of these shops. Besides sporting goods, which includes equipment and clothing, Scheels features fashion and footwear shops throughout the store for women, men and youth. In addition, its collection of attractions will allow shoppers to spend hours inside its store, providing fun for the entire family.

To meet the sporting needs of families, Scheels focuses on every member. “We’re able to take care of all ages in all sports,” noted Kevin. “It doesn’t matter if your girls play soccer, your son is a serious bike rider, Mom is a runner and Dad is an avid trap shooter and fly fisherman; Scheels can fill those needs. We have it all under one roof.”

Not only does Scheels offer top quality sporting goods; the store also stocks desired fashion labels for women. Rock Revival, Silver, Miss Me, Buffalo, Billabong, Roxy and Sanctuary are just a few of the notable brands carried at Scheels.

While the name brands help separate Scheels from the rest of the competition, it’s the incredible staff that scores big wins for this company. “We pride ourselves in having experts in all areas of our store to help you really find what you want,” remarked Kevin. “We’ll have marathon runners offering advice on running shoes, avid fisherman selling fishing equipment, serious bikers selling bikes, die-hard bow hunters selling bows, and knowledgeable clothing and shoe experts to help answer all of your questions with fashion. Their expertise and knowledge in their individual fields allow them to help the beginner all the way to the experienced sports enthusiast.”

The experience offered by the Overland Park staff is impressive. The Athletic Shoe Expert has completed 11 marathons in seven states and qualified for the Boston Marathon twice. Scheels’ Fishing Expert has won eight local fishing tournaments in the last two years and has taken home three national fishing tournaments in the last three years. Another has won the 2015 Masters Walleye Circuit Championship and is the reigning 2015 Missouri State Champion. On the basketball court, this Expert was a member of the Iowa women’s basketball team that took the 2008 Big Ten Championship. For biking, this Scheels’ Expert completed five Imperial Centuries (100 miles) last year alone and is a licensed certified instructor through the League of American Bicyclists. When your bikes need work, Scheels’ Bike Service Shop professional is Barnett and USA Cycling certified and was a mechanic for USA Cycling’s national team in 2000. He has worked with multiple national champions, world championship silver medalists and Olympians across all disciplines in road, track, mountain and cyclocross. These are just a few examples of the experienced and knowledgeable staff lineup waiting to help you improve your game.

Not only can you get the best gear and service, shopping at Scheels is a fun family outing. “We offer a complete experience for the entire family, including our 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, wildlife mountain, 16-car Ferris wheel, a golf simulator where you can play all of the famous courses, a shooting gallery and a five-sport simulator,” noted Kevin. “Then you can visit Ginna’s Café and Fudge Shop, featuring a full line of soups and sandwiches, Starbucks coffee, 24 delicious flavors of fudge, Bavarian almonds and other offerings. At Scheels, we’re so much more than a sporting goods store.” HLM
