It’s not often that a business thrives and prospers for 25 years, but the solid foundation built by the owners and staff of Oliver’s Hair Salon over that time frame is doing just that. Not only are the services superb, but the product lines offered feature some of the most notable names in the business. “We carry several different brands of exclusive products–Aveda™, Oribe, R+Co, Smith & Cult–and we’ve created our own line with Oliver’s Eurolyne System,” revealed Wendy Steinnagel, who owns the salon with her husband.

Oliver’s Hair Salon has achieved membership in the very exclusive group of Intercoiffure hair salons, which is a worldwide organization singling out the top two percent of salons. In North America, only 250 businesses hold the title of an Intercoiffure salon. “In addition, we’re the only Intercoiffure salon in the Kansas City area and in the state of Kansas. To be awarded this honor, you must have an incredible business model and display an impressive artistic component,” shared Oliver. “To even be interviewed, you must be sponsored by two other Intercoiffure salons, and membership is approved by committee. Not everyone makes it; only about a half dozen achieve this status each year. It’s really an accomplishment to be chosen.”

To further his involvement with this group as well as the Professional Beauty Association and expand his knowledge base, Oliver now sits on the board of directors and the governmental affairs committee, which monitors and develops legislative issues for the salon industry. Oliver is very focused on not only providing for his own business but also for the industry as whole, which benefits owners across the U.S. and the customers they service. He sees the intense value that growing personal and business relationships can bring to his salon and clientele. “The biggest thing is the networking and the personal relationships that we’ve built,” he noted. “I can pick up the phone, talk to the owners of the most impressive salons in the world and bounce ideas off them. I can’t tell you how important these learnings and contacts can be.”

The information gained isn’t just limited to Oliver and Wendy, as staff is exposed on a continual basis to top-notch talent. “Each employee is a licensed technician with advanced training in all services and excellent product knowledge,” remarked Wendy. “To help grow that awareness, we bring a guest artist to our salon for a hands-on seminar several times a year. The stylists learn from the guest artist and then from each other as new techniques are shared. Every month we have a minimum of two educators meet with team members.” To further that educational base, Oliver and Wendy attend global, national and regional conferences to learn and network. The beauty industry is ever-changing and Oliver’s Hair Salon stays on top of the latest trends and changes.

In addition to their focus on education, the couple strongly believes in being good community citizens. “It’s our duty to be able to help others. We have a nice life here and want to give back by assisting global and local charities, many of which are aimed at helping women,” remarked Wendy.
