Locks and Pulls: Decorative Hardware to Personalize the Kitchen and Home

By  0 Comments

Q. I am in the process of updating my kitchen cabinet hardware. Should I use knobs or pulls?

A. For years, the designer community suggested knobs on cabinet doors, pulls on drawers. Today, with the variety of products and styles available, there really is no good answer to that question. As cabinet designs are evolving into taller doors, and bigger and wider drawers, we are seeing a trend toward longer pieces for both doors and drawers. In addition, both larger and more decorative knobs are being selected for specific areas or applications.

Q. I want to update my kitchen hardware with current finishes. Should finishes on hardware, faucets and appliances all match?

A. In the past, typically, faucet and hardware finishes in a kitchen matched or were very similar. Today we are seeing designs where an island might have one style and finish of hardware, while the perimeter cabinetry will have something completely different. The fridge might be stainless, and the cabinet hardware and faucets are oil-rubbed bronze. The end result should be something pleasing to the eye and comfortable to the user.

Ultimately, each individual has their own style and taste and they should follow that to conclusion to make their home comfortable and a place they want to be. ■
