It’s a Dog’s Happy Life!

Q. How often should my dog be groomed?

A. Each dog is different, but the best advice is to base the grooming on the length of the dog’s coat. The coat of a dog is a huge factor when determining grooming. We suggest dogs with shorter coats be groomed every six weeks and dogs with longer coats come every four weeks. It’s important that owners of dogs with longer coats brush the dog regularly between grooming sessions to help with matting. Regular grooming keeps both you and your pet healthier, keeps your house cleaner and helps spot health problems before they become an issue. The last benefit of grooming is controlling the shedding in your home, to prevent that constant vacuuming from the dog’s shedding that drives us crazy!

Q. Why should I take my canine to dog daycare?

A. There are lots of reasons! Dogs get lonely when they are alone and can get bored and start chewing on things they shouldn’t. You don’t have to rush home to let them out to potty after work. Daycare will tire the pup out with socialization and exercise, and your pup will make new friends and enjoy having a change of scenery.

Daycare is not only good because the dog gets exercise but it leads to a happier and healthier dog and lifestyle for your pet.  We offer half and full days of daycare.  Not all dogs are cut out for a full day of play and the half day is just enough to burn that extra energy.  Dog daycare provides human contact from more than just their owner and that helps with socializing in other situations outside of the home. ■

Erin Dean, owner, opened Sydney’s Pet Spa in October 2006, all for the love of her rescue dog, Sydney. Sydney was very high maintenance and full of energy when it came to leaving her while Erin was away on travel for work. So, she thought, what could be better than to start a place where Sydney would feel at home, have fun and be comfortable. With Sydney in mind, Erin created Sydney’s Pet Spa to allow each client to customize their pet’s stay with a la carte amenities covering basic to complex needs to ensure that pets can feel at home during their stay. Erin loves meeting all the new dogs and cats that come to Sydney’s and feels they are all part of the “Sydney’s Family.” Erin rescued Daisy, a Maltese and Yorkie mix, after opening Sydney’s. She also has two full-time residents of Sydney’s, Joey, a blue and gold macaw, and Audrey, a domestic short hair cat. Sydney’s has half-price daycare on Mondays and Wednesdays ($10 for the whole day).
