Breast Augmentation: Choosing the Right Implant

QUESTION: How do I know what size implant is right for me?

ANSWER: When choosing an implant, I listen carefully to what the patient wants. Does she desire a more natural look, fullness in the upper portion of the breast or does she want a very noticeable augmentation? Careful measurements are taken to ensure a proper fit. I not only look at the breast symmetry but I also look at her body frame when choosing an implant. It is very important to me to take the time to ask questions and for us to develop a plan together to reach the goal she is looking for.

QUESTION: How long will my implants last?

ANSWER: Implants can last 20 years to a lifetime. There are a few reasons a woman may want to exchange her implants that I discuss during the consultation. She may no longer like the look of her breasts due to the natural aging process or deflation after breast feeding (yes, you can breast feed with implants) or she may desire a different size. Capsular contracture is another reason to exchange an implant. This is a thickening of the scar tissue that surrounds the implant. An implant needs to be exchanged any time it is ruptured. HLM
