Tie the Knot – Devin and Steve Carver

Devin Carver was born in Bedford, Texas, and grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. She graduated high school from Olathe East in 2010 and attended Oklahoma State University before transferring to Kansas State University, where she majored in conventions meeting and events management with a minor in business. Devin works for The Wellington Group in Overland Park, Kansas.
Steve Carver grew up in Shawnee, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 2010. He attended Holy Cross to play basketball before transferring to Kansas State University. He is a management information systems major from Kansas State University with an emphasis on statistics and a minor in leadership studies. He works for the Williams-Carver Co., Inc. in Kansas City, Kansas.
Steve and Devin met in high school when she almost hit his car while driving through a Sonic parking lot. She definitely had no idea that the crazy guy who was “obviously” in the wrong lane would be the guy that she would spend the rest of her life with. Steve and Devin dated for a while during high school and got back together in college; they have been together ever since!
Steve enlisted the help of his family to create his proposal to Devin. “Steve told me that his grandmother was coming to town to take his family and me to a special dinner,” Devin smiles. “He picked me up that night in a limo and explained that his grandmother had rented the limo for the evening but would have to meet us at the restaurant because her flight had been delayed. After we arrived at the Plaza for dinner, Steve received a phone call from his father saying that the flight was delayed too long for all of them to make it in time for dinner and that their family would just meet Steve and Devin at home afterward.” After arriving home that night to spend time with Steve’s grandmother and family, Devin realized that she was never coming into town all along. Steve had set up decorations with keepsakes from the past that he had kept combined with explanations of what they represented, and asked Devin to marry him in this memorable and loving atmosphere.
The blissful couple tied the knot on October 4, 2014. The wedding party consisted of 12 of Devin and Steve’s closest friends from high school and college. Thanks to Steve’s history of playing basketball, four members of the bridal party are over 6’7″ tall.
“We are a pretty traditional couple but we put a very modern twist on a traditional wedding,” Devin shares. “And after the wedding ceremony, we had a party bus transporting the bridal party and family to and from the reception as well as a 1950s Chevy for our transportation. We had a wonderful time and are so thankful our family and friends were there to celebrate this special day with us!
The couple honeymooned at Playa Paraiso Beach in Cancun, Mexico, enjoying all of the amenities of the resort and some time relaxing together.
