Risa and Brandon Groh

By  0 Comments

Risa Canseco-Groh is 28 and lives in Kansas City, Missouri, with her handsome husband Brandon, working as a hair stylist, caretaker for dogs and a local hot dog vendor.

Brandon Groh is 30 and a union carpenter; Risa describes him as a very handy man! He shares, “We have fun doing projects around our home, remodeling our backyard, adding a patio, creating an oasis for ourselves and our pups, Jet and Rico.”

Risa and Brandon were friends for almost two years, able to talk with ease and understanding, laughter and good times; when they met the two instantly became best friends. Risa shares, “Very rapidly and unexpectedly, our friendship grew to a love and respect that we both always dreamed of. We knew we were meant to be together even before we started dating.”

Brandon proposed to Risa on June 18, 2012, the one-year anniversary of their first date. She remembers, “Brandon had me close my eyes while we drove to the location. Once we arrived, he picked me up out of the car and I had to walk up some stairs still with my eyes closed. He told me finally I could open my eyes, and I saw a dream-like world—gorgeous fountains, flowers and buildings. It was Unity Village! Brandon had helped remodel it and showed me all the work he did. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I cried and said yes. The special and romantic moment was captured by our photographer, who was hiding in the bushes! Brandon then took me to a surprise dinner where our family was waiting for us, and afterward we rushed to my grandparents’ house so we could celebrate with everyone. My grandpa had been battling cancer for over a year at that point, and he knew about the engagement. He was a fighter and the main person I couldn’t wait to share this with. He smiled for the first time in a long time, which brought us all to happy tears. That moment topped off our perfect day. I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful proposal. Brandon is such a thoughtful, sweet & romantic man.”

The blissful couple tied the knot on October 11, 2013, a beautiful fall day, at Hawthorne House. Risa reveals, “We had the most calming, relaxing day. The feeling of knowing we are meant to be, that God brought us together, is a true blessing. Our wedding day was more than anything we ever dreamed of. The staff of Hawthorne House truly went above and beyond to make the day go smoothly; they are kind hearted people and extremely organized! It was a day we both reflect on and talk about all the time. Getting married to the person you’ve waited your whole life for, with our loved ones by our sides, made it the best day of our lives.

“As a little girl, I grew up off Bell Road near Hawthorne House. Before the property was remodeled, we went to the Bell Road Barn for their plays and spent winter days sledding down the hills. When I learned that Hawthorne House would be a wedding venue, getting married there became a dream of mine. As I saw the completion of the perfect white chapel, my wish grew stronger. When Brandon and I became engaged, we went there immediately so I could share my dream with him. And it was perfect for us!”

Risa and Brandon honeymooned for a week in Newport Beach, California, taking in the sights and relaxing. They hope to be able to return in the future to explore the state.
