Inside the Home of Dave & Virginia Marken

By  0 Comments

When Dave and Virginia Marken were looking to move from San Francisco, the city of Lodi was on the top of their list. Virginia’s mother lived in Woodbridge as a child and her parents spent their last 30 years in Lodi. Growing up, Virginia had many family members who lived in Lodi. She has fond memories of visiting her aunts and uncles and enjoying lunch and ice cream at Blewett’s in downtown.

After restoring their San Francisco home, built in 1923, they fell in love with their current home, which boasts some of the same features and character they appreciate in an older home, such as high ceiling and covings, beveled glass, original oak and pine flooring and original built-in cabinetry. “Like our previous home, we found many exciting opportunities and challenges to both improve our home and invest in our community,” shared Virginia.

The Markens have always loved Lodi and have watched it blossom with the wine tourism. They enjoy visiting local wineries, restaurants and the proximity to downtown, often walking with their dog for coffee or a bite to eat. Lodi was the perfect location for the Markens and they bought their Downtown Lodi home in the summer of 2015. They are involved in the Heritage District project, which seeks to improve their neighborhood and the city.

“We believe Lodi is a wonderful place to be at this time in our lives,” Dave explained. Dave recently retired as superintendent of Newark Unified in the Bay Area. Virginia is still working for Kaiser Permanente in South Sacramento as a nurse anesthetist, now in her 30th year with Kaiser!

Welcome to Lodi, Dave and Virginia Marken! Thank you for sharing your home. ■
