HLM: Why did you choose to update your kitchen?
L: I had been thinking about it for 20 years. Our kitchen was closed in with overhead cabinets and outdated. I wanted an
open concept.

HLM: What do you love about your new kitchen the most?
L: I love my huge island, the appliances, pull-out drawer for utensils and the microwave drawer! It is amazing how much easier it is to use and keep clean. Kathleen had so many ideas I had never dreamed of. The pull-out trash bins add convenience and I have so much cabinet space.

Kathleen scheduled an appointment and we all went to Ferguson’s in Sacramento to select our appliances. Kathleen facilitated and helped me make my selections while staying within our budget. We selected GE Profile appliances and a Sharp microwave. One of my favorite features is the built-in banquette; it adds additional seating for extra people and storage, an extremely versatile feature that I love.

HLM: What advice would you give someone looking to design or remodel
their kitchen?
L: Don’t hesitate to contact a designer to make the most of the money you have to spend and give you ideas on how to rearrange things. Be patient! We lived out of the garage and a back bedroom for a few weeks, but we survived and our marriage survived.

Linda’s Thoughts on Working with Kathleen
I was hesitant to contact her or any designer, for that matter. We are not fancy, but I didn’t want to make mistakes. I tried to order some things on my own and they never worked. Kathleen was so easy to talk to; she and Sandra got to know us before we started working on the project. The whole experience was a personalized service. Kathleen makes everyone feel like their project is important. I didn’t even know what I wanted; she helped me discover it through her vast array of contacts and ideas, something I would never have access to on my own.

HLM: Was there anything about the process of working with Kathleen and remodeling your kitchen that surprised you? If so, what was it?
L: I was surprised it all turned out so well. Going through a remodel is hard and scary. You can be overwhelmed by the thought of spending money and making mistakes. The end result is more than I dreamed of. Some of the prices surprised me as well, I thought it would be more expensive and she brought me things that were higher quality at a lesser price than I could find on my own. I liked working with Kathleen so much, we had her back to update our master bedroom.
